UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State Board of Trustees Committee on Finance, Business and Capital Planning today (Nov. 21) voted to recommend the firm of Bohlin Cywinski Jackson of Wilkes-Barre, Pa., as the architect to design the Student Enrichment Center at Penn State Harrisburg.
Pending approval of the full board on Friday (Nov. 22), Bohlin Cywinski Jackson will serve as architect for the $27 million, 58,600-square-foot project which will house offices that provide key services for undergraduate and graduate students that currently are in various locations across campus.
In August 2012, Penn State Harrisburg received a leadership gift commitment of $1 million from Russell E. Horn Sr., a 1933 Penn State graduate in engineering, to support the project.
Horn’s gift will fund two areas within the student enrichment center: the Learning Center, which offers a range of tutoring services and fosters student collaborations; and a spiritual meditation center that will accommodate students’ varied religious practices.
In addition, the new facility will house student lounges, food service, a theater/lecture hall, and offices for student advising, counseling and disability services, honors education and international study programs.
“As we continue to enjoy a robust and expanding enrollment at Penn State Harrisburg, the need to have many services accessible in one location is important,” Chancellor Mukund Kulkarni said. “We are grateful for Mr. Horn’s generosity and we know that this project will greatly enrich our students’ experience.”
