The prenatal breastfeeding classes offered through Human Resource’s Breastfeeding Support Program still have spaces available for their fall classes. You can check it off your to-do list by signing up for the upcoming Saturday, Sept. 21 classes or look ahead to the monthly classes scheduled through December.
Taking a prenatal class is a great way to decrease anxiety when you’re worried about what to expect with breastfeeding. Both classes, listed below, are taught by an international board-certified lactation consultant (IBCLC), so all information provided is supported by the latest research. The IBCLC also draws on their experience from working with mothers and babies for over 15 years.
PSU-140, Basics of Breastfeeding
Information presented in this class highlights what is needed to prepare for breastfeeding during the early weeks. Topics may include establishing milk supply, positioning and latch, how to tell if baby is getting enough milk, and normal newborn behavior.
PSU-141 Working and Breastfeeding
This class will help the individuals relate to combining work/student life and breastfeeding. Topics may include milk expression and storage, bottle feeding a breastfed baby, and planning for return to work or class.
Each class is offered for a nominal fee for all Penn State expectant parents and can be taken separately or back-to-back. To register for a class, visit the Learning Resource Network.
