UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — A recommendation today (Nov. 12) to purchase of a property on 101 N. Atherton St. in State College, near the University Park campus, was pushed forward by the Board of Trustees Committee on Finance, Business and Capital Planning. The full board will consider the proposal at its meeting on Friday, Nov. 13.
The .26-acre property on the corner of West College Avenue and North Atherton Street includes a 6,222-square-foot building that was formerly leased by FedEx Office – Ship and Print, and is adjacent to other Penn State properties.
The University plans to use the property’s existing facility in the short term as swing space to assist with other campus moves resulting from Penn State’s ongoing capital plan. This acquisition also will enable Penn State to use the facility for much needed office space, allowing the University to bring some off-site units currently leasing space back onto campus.
The purchase of the property gives Penn State control of a critical site that forms a boundary to the University Park campus. Penn State will integrate the property into its long-range plans for the eventual enhancement of the North Atherton Street corridor, as well as its role as a gateway to campus from College Avenue.
