DUNMORE, Pa. — The Fidelity Bank D&D Charitable Foundation has made a contribution to Penn State Scranton’s Student Hardship Fund, which aids students who find themselves facing unexpected financial challenges.

Mary McNichols, senior vice president and human resources director for Fidelity Bank, recently presented the $1,000 check to Christine Ostroski, Penn State Scranton director of development, at the campus.

“Throughout the year, but especially during the holidays, it is important to thank those whose efforts help those in need. Through The Fidelity Bank D&D Charitable Foundation, we are proud to be able to say thank you for all the work you do in the community. This check, on behalf of Fidelity Bank, is to recognize the positive difference you make in the lives you serve,” wrote Fidelity Bank President and CEO Daniel Santaniello.

“We are extremely thankful to Fidelity Bank for their generosity to the campus and to those students here at Penn State Scranton who find themselves, unexpectedly, in dire need of financial assistance to continue their studies,” Ostroski said. “Their contribution to the Student Hardship Fund will definitely have a positive impact on students who need it the most.”

The Student Hardship Fund at Penn State Scranton was established in 2014 by the campus’ Development and Alumni Relations Office to help students who find themselves in dire financial need due to an unexpected life circumstance that negatively impacts their ability to meet their financial obligations.

The Student Hardship Fund has helped students in need cover a variety of costs, including tuition, student fees, books and living expenses. Without assistance from this fund, those students who have benefited may not have been able to continue their college education.
