UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Kurt Kissinger, Penn State’s associate vice president for Finance and Business, has been selected for the 2018-19 National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO) Fellows Program.
The program is a year-long leadership development program for aspiring chief business officers of colleges and universities. This year, 11 promising business and finance leaders were selected to participate.
“During our time working together, I have been impressed by the unusual balance of strategic thinking and attention to detail that Kurt brings to the table,” said David Gray, senior vice president for Finance and Business. “There is no question in my mind that Kurt is destined to become a senior administrative officer at a leading institution of higher education.”
NACUBO fellows work together and with higher education presidents, provosts and chief business officers (CBO) to deepen their knowledge of business management, institutional communications and the expanding role of the CBO on campus. They also evaluate and enhance their leadership skills as they learn the core competencies needed to succeed as CBOs.
During the fellowship experience, participants will attend the annual NACUBO meeting; join in workshops and meetings; and spend time at another institution being mentored by a CBO.
Kissinger has served as associate vice president since August 2016 and has led several initiatives to enhance finance and business operations across Penn State’s units and campuses. He serves as chief of staff for Finance and Business and is responsible for coordinating the development and implementation of the Office of Finance and Business’s strategic plan, the annual budgeting process and other cross-cutting projects. Kissinger also serves as administrative liaison to the Board of Trustees Committee on Finance, Business and Capital Planning, and coordinates strategic real estate projects.
Prior to that, he was director of operations at the College of Medicine from 2011 to 2016. Before joining Penn State, Kissinger held leadership positions in both the private and public sectors.
Founded in 1962, NACUBO is a nonprofit professional organization representing chief administrative and financial officers at more than 1,900 colleges and universities across the country.
