UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State has named Barbara A. Masi associate vice provost for learning outcomes assessment, effective March 21.
Masi is currently the director of education innovation and assessment initiatives in the Schools of Arts, Sciences and Engineering at the University of Rochester.
“Barb brings extensive experience and knowledge to the Office of Planning and Assessment. We are excited to have someone of her background lead the Department of Learning Outcomes Assessment,” said Lance Kennedy-Phillips, vice provost for planning and assessment.
As associate vice provost, Masi will be responsible for leading the Department of Learning Outcomes Assessment (LOA). LOA will be focused on ensuring that the University has in place comprehensive and proper support mechanisms for program assessment for degree programs — including undergraduate majors, certificates, minors and graduate programs — and co-curricular programs. The department will also be responsible for coordinating Penn State’s accreditation processes.
"I am excited to join the Penn State team,” Masi said. “The energy and momentum around student learning assessment is fantastic right now. It will be a pleasure to dig in with everyone."
Masi’s other experiences includes serving as director of education innovation and assessment at the Massachusetts Institute for Technology (MIT) School of Engineering; assessment/evaluation manager, MIT site for the NSF Engineering Education Grant: ECSEL Coalition; and research associate for MIT Large Scale Systems Committee.
She earned her bachelor of science and master of science in materials science and engineering and her joint doctorate in management and technology policy from MIT.
