Paid parental leave pilot program going into effect

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – On Feb. 1, the new Paid Parental Leave pilot program will go into effect for the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL). The announcement made by Penn State Human Resources on Jan. 23 outlined the new leave policy that will begin University-wide on July 1.

ARL is piloting this program to assist the University in finalizing administrative procedures, evaluating expected utilization and identifying communication opportunities prior to going live for all benefits-eligible University staff on July 1.

This new leave allows benefits-eligible staff to receive four weeks of paid parental leave for the purpose of bonding with a newborn or a newly adopted child under the age of 18. However, if the adoption involves a child who is incapable of self-care because of a disability, the age limit of 18 may be waived.

The official Paid Parental Leave policy is still under review and will be available on the University’s policy website once approved. Resources are available on the Human Resources website. If you have any further questions, please go to the WorkLion portal or call HR Services at 814-865-1473.
