UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State Human Resources is announcing a new and optional free prescription savings benefit called Scripta to employees* and dependents enrolled in one of the University’s health plans. Employees and enrolled dependents will have access to this new benefit starting on Sept. 1.
“We know the cost of health care — particularly prescription drugs — is a major concern for our employees,” said Jennifer Wilkes, vice president for Penn State Human Resources and chief human resources officer. “We’re always looking for ways to help our valued employees save on their health care costs. Making this service from Scripta available to our employees and their dependents will give them the option of exploring potential ways to save on their prescriptions.”
Scripta is a company founded by doctors that has saved employers and their employees millions of dollars on prescriptions for more than a decade. Scripta is not a mail order or home delivery pharmacy, but a service that provides participants with options and pricing information in order to be a smarter prescription shopper. Armed with this information, patients can have more informed conversations with their doctor who often doesn’t know what medications cost on the patient’s health plan.
How does Scripta work? If there are savings opportunities on medications, employees and their dependents will each automatically receive a Personalized Savings Report with lower-cost options and potential savings. Employees can choose how to save — whether by using a coupon, changing pharmacies, or, with their doctor’s approval, switching to a generic or proven alternative medication. Savings reports are mailed monthly and available 24/7 in the Scripta mobile app and web portal.
The program is completely free, voluntary and HIPAA compliant. Scripta encrypts patient data and will not sell or share personal health information, including with Penn State.
Want to get a head start? Employees can pre-register for a Scripta account online here or download the Scripta app and enter the Penn State pre-registration code: 4705. Individuals who pre-register will not see a Personalized Savings Report until September.
Full details will be available on the Penn State Benefits website.
