PHOTOS: Penn State honors alumna Shirley Malcom with building dedication

Shirley Malcom — Penn State alumna, influential scientist and pioneering advocate for women of color in science — was honored by Penn State at a building dedication ceremony on April 8, officially renaming the 329 Building at Innovation Park as the The Shirley M. Malcom Building. In her remarks, she spoke of the challenges she faced on her road to becoming an internationally recognized scientist, former U.S. presidential advisor and current senior advisor at the American Association for the Advancement of Science, as well as the critical importance of making science educations and careers accessible to all communities. Credit: Michel Lee Garrett / Penn State. The University honored Penn State pioneer Shirley M. Malcom at a building dedication ceremony at Innovation Park held on April 8, in recognition of her many accomplishments as a leader in the sciences and as an advocate for women and girls, especially women and girls of color, in the sciences.
