UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – In an overview today (May 6) of the past year and the progress made by the University, Penn State President Eric Barron touched on the status of 11 goals he had set and the successful launch of a wide array of initiatives, including increasing access and affordability of a Penn State education.
In remarks to University’s Board of Trustees, Barron also discussed his pursuit of cost-saving measures and increased revenue for Penn State; efficiency initiatives that amount to more than $115.9 million; and budget cuts and recycling of University dollars that have averaged over $23 million per year for more than a decade.
Since coming on board in 2014, the president was able to successfully launch Invent Penn State, the economic development, job creation and student career success initiative that has created regional ecosystems of entrepreneurship across the Commonwealth.
Barron also discussed ongoing challenges, such as a projected 8 percent rise in health care costs that represent an annual increase of $15 million to Penn State and continued concerns about the reliance on tuition increases.
