UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Commission on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer Equity (CLGBTQE) invites Penn State staff, faculty and students to apply for membership. The deadline to submit applications is 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28.
Commission members serve in an advisory capacity to communicate to President Eric Barron recommendations, observations, suggestions and investigations germane to LGBTQ equity at Penn State.
“Now more than ever, students, staff and faculty at the University should apply to become members and affiliates of the President’s Commission on LGBTQ Equity and become involved in advancing equity and inclusion at all levels and across all campuses at Penn State,” said Borja Gutiérrez, 2016-18 commission chair.
Full-time students (undergraduate and graduate), and full-time faculty, staff and administrators from all Penn State campuses are eligible to serve. Members are appointed by President Barron, serve three-year terms, hold voting privileges, take an active part in committee work, and have the ability to become part of the executive leadership of the commission. Affiliates are approved for one-year terms and can serve on one of the commission’s five standing committees.
“Through membership, you are taking a proactive step in contributing to safeguarding the tremendous accomplishments secured in our 26 years of advocacy to the progressive realization of LGBTQ social justice,” Gutiérrez said.
Staff members should speak with their supervisors about this University service opportunity before submitting an application. To learn more about the commission, and to submit an online application, visit equity.psu.edu/clgbtqe/involved.
