Robert Kubat named new university registrar

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Penn State has appointed Robert A. Kubat as university registrar, effective July 1.

Kubat, who has served as university registrar at Purdue University since 2005, will be replacing Karen Schultz, who is retiring and held the position at Penn State for nearly seven years.

As university registrar, Kubat will join the senior leadership of the enrollment management team in the Office of Undergraduate Education, overseeing all student records and offering a wide range of enrollment and support services. He will work closely with the Faculty Senate, college and campus administration, and departmental staff and campus registrars on the development, coordination and communication of policies and procedures governing student actions, security of student information, academic advising processes, class scheduling and registration systems.

Penn State currently is engaged in Project LionPATH (Penn State Academic Technology Hub), a multi-year initiative to replace Penn State’s Integrated Student Information System (ISIS) with a new, modern system set to roll out in phases beginning in fall 2015.

"I am excited to join the enrollment management team in the Office of Undergraduate Education at Penn State University,” Kubat said. “I look forward to contributing to the Office of the University Registrar and the new student system implementation.”

Before coming to Purdue, Kubat served as university registrar at Miami University of Ohio for five years and before that held registrar or associate registrar positions at Rowan University, University of North Carolina Charlotte and West Chester University.

Kubat earned a bachelor of science degree in business administration, with a major in marketing and a minor in management information systems, as well as a master of arts degree in student personnel services from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

“Bob’s career as a registrar is long and distinguished,” said Robert Pangborn, interim executive vice president and provost at Penn State. “His knowledge and innovative ideas will be valuable assets as the University continues to maximize the efficiency of its administrative processes, promoting academic success among students.”
