Suzanne Weinstein named assistant vice provost for learning outcomes assessment

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Suzanne E. Weinstein has been named assistant vice provost for learning outcomes assessment (LOA) in the Office of Planning and Assessment at Penn State, effective March 5. Previously, Weinstein served as interim associate vice provost for learning outcomes assessment at the University.

“Suzanne brings the experiences and skills necessary to lead the University’s assessment process,” said Lance Kennedy-Phillips, vice provost for planning and assessment. “I am confident Suzanne will be an accessible, collaborative and thoughtful leader.”

As assistant vice provost, Weinstein will be responsible for leading the learning outcomes assessment team, which is focused on ensuring that the University has in place comprehensive and proper support mechanisms for assessment of degree programs and co-curricular programs. LOA is responsible for supporting faculty at all Penn State locations who are developing and executing plans to assess student learning at the program level, including undergraduate, graduate and certificate programs, as well as General Education.

“It has been my privilege over the past 16 years to work closely with faculty who share my passion for helping students learn,” said Weinstein. “I am delighted to have the opportunity to continue doing so from a new perspective.”

From 2002 to 2016 Weinstein provided support for program- and course-level assessment, as well as University-wide assessment projects, in various roles at the Schreyer Institute for Teaching Excellence. As director of instructional consulting, assessment and research from 2010 to 2016, she focused her efforts on program-level learning outcomes assessment for undergraduate programs. She joined the Office of Planning and Assessment in 2016 as assistant director for learning outcomes assessment.

Weinstein holds a doctorate in psychology, a master of science degree in psychology, and a bachelor of science degree in biology, all from Penn State.
