UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Teamsters Local Union 8, which represents about 2,600 technical service employees at Penn State University, reached an agreement with Penn State on a new three-year collective bargaining agreement, effective July 1, 2017. Members of Teamsters Local Union No. 8 ratified the agreement, replacing the contract that expired on June 30, 2017.
Jonathan Light, president of Teamsters Local Union No. 8, announced the results Monday (Aug. 14, 2017) following the count of votes by union members on the tentative agreement reached by the Union and University on June 20. It was accepted by the members of Teamsters Local 8 by a 6 to 1 margin.
The new agreement goes into effect July 1, and covers a three-year period through June 30, 2020. The technical service employees represented by the Teamsters work at University Park and Commonwealth campus locations across Pennsylvania and include dining hall workers, custodians, groundskeepers, shipping and receiving clerks, and trades, among many other technical jobs.
The new agreement provides wage increases for employees in each of the three contract years along with a competitive health care benefits package.
