UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- To better support the student body at Penn State Schuylkill, the Penn State Board of Trustees approved the purchase by Penn State Housing and Food Services (HFS) of the Nittany Apartments at Penn State Schuylkill on April 5 from the Schuylkill Campus Advisory Board.

The Nittany Apartments at Penn State Schuylkill are located adjacent to campus and feature five apartment-style buildings for undergraduate students. Closing is anticipated to occur on or before June 30.

“This strategic acquisition ensures the Schuylkill campus has convenient housing options for students and furthers our commitment to housing security. We are excited we can now offer LiveOn grants to students at the campus,” said Sara Thorndike, senior vice president for Finance and Business.

Penn State Schuylkill Chancellor Patrick M. Jones echoed those sentiments, saying, “The transition of these apartment buildings to the University is a great opportunity to continue offering our students the highest quality living experience. Our new partnership with Housing and Food Services is in the best interest of our students, Penn State Schuylkill, and the University as a whole. Our students will benefit from the full suite of support from our housing being managed by HFS, and I look forward to working with the entire team as we move forward.”

Upon completion of the real estate purchase, the residence hall complex — comprised of 308 beds — will join HFS’ portfolio of on-campus living options with the current benefits and support at campus housing complexes across 10 Commonwealth Campuses and University Park.

The five apartment-style buildings were built between 1987 and 2011.
