Workshop series announced for faculty on preparing for promotion, tenure process

The Office of the Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs has announced a workshop series for faculty on how to prepare for success in the promotion and tenure process.

Continuing momentum from the fall 2021 presentation titled "Promoting Faculty Success: Promotion and Tenure at Penn State," the new, four-part Promotion and Tenure Workshop Series in February and March 2022 will provide an in-depth exploration of the promotion and tenure process for all Penn State faculty, including tenure- and nontenure-line.

"Faculty success and career advancement are imperatives at Penn State,” said Ann Clements, assistant vice provost for faculty affairs – faculty development. “While many universities have a broad mandate of teaching, research or creative accomplishment, and service, most do not clearly state to faculty their responsibilities beyond a narrow concept of research productivity and teaching workload. This workshop series will provide Penn State faculty information on a variety of topics to assist faculty who are working toward promotion.”

Workshops offered this semester include:

  • "Transitioning from Associate to Full in a Tenured Faculty Position" (Feb. 11, 10-11 a.m.)
  • "Advancement and Promotion for Non-Tenure-Line Faculty" (Feb. 16, 1-2 p.m.)
  • "Preparing for Promotion and Tenure at Penn State for Pre-Tenured Faculty" (Feb. 21, 4-5 p.m.)
  • "Tips for Writing a Narrative Statement" (March 24, 2-3 p.m.)

This series will be offered live via Penn State’s Zoom platform, and each hourlong session will be recorded for later viewing. Audience questions are highly encouraged. Registration is not required to attend.

Additional information about the workshop series is available on the Office of the Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs website.
