Corbin returned to Kansas in 1975, accepting a position as extension home economist for the Kansas Cooperative Extension Service in Saline County. In 1979, she was promoted to instructor and extension specialist for clothing and textiles, based at Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kan. Corbin earned a doctorate in family life education in 1982 from Kansas State.

In 1983, Corbin joined the Kansas State faculty as an assistant professor and clothing and textiles extension specialist.
