Raise a glass to home winemaking: Penn State Extension offers workshop

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — An upcoming Penn State Extension workshop is aimed at helping home winemakers take their hobby to the next level. The “Advanced Home Winemaking Workshop” will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 20, in 252 Rodney Erickson Food Science Building on Penn State’s University Park campus.

The workshop will cover:

  • How to ensure a successful fermentation.
  • Sanitation.
  • Laboratory analysis.
  • Sulfur dioxide management.
  • Fining and filtration.
  • Faults detection.

This event is intended for participants with some home winemaking experience. Organizers ask that participants bring their wines for the group to assess.

Participants can register through 11:59 p.m. May 10. The $30 registration fee covers lunch. Space is limited, so preregistration is required.
