Webinar to focus on the science of addiction and recovery

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — An upcoming Penn State Extension webinar, titled “The Science of Addiction and Recovery,” will focus on several major concepts related to substance use, addiction and recovery.

Taking place from noon to 1 p.m. Feb. 27, the webinar is designed for the public, including anyone with a connection to someone who is living with an addiction or in recovery and anyone interested in reducing the impacts of substance use disorder on individuals and communities.

This session is intended to increase participants’ knowledge of the disease of addiction while also reducing stigma toward people with substance use disorder. Presenters will discuss current research on addiction as a disease, the impacts of drug use on the brain and physical health, treatment options for people with substance use disorder, and the science behind the recovery process.

Penn State Extension offers this webinar free of charge, but registration by 1 p.m. Feb. 27 is required to receive the link to access the webinar. Registrants also will receive access to the webinar recording.
