Altoona
Theatre Performance: 'Shattering' by Juhanna Rogers
7:30 PM - 9:30 PM / January 25, 2024
Penn State Altoona will host “Shattering” by Juhanna Rogers at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 25, in the Wolf Kuhn Theatre of the Misciagna Family Center for Performing Arts. A Q&A session will follow the performance.
“Shattering” is a one-woman performance exploring a journey of self-discovery. It follows a young girl, Nicole, as she grows and transforms into Juhanna, her true self.
“This play is about facing my story, being courageous, and sharing it to hopefully comfort and inspire others to do the same,” said Rogers. “There is something magical and heavy about being a Black woman in the world. ‘Shattering’ explores it all. I am most vulnerable in this work, and I am grateful for the opportunity.”
Rogers is a motivational speaker, artist, activist, host of the WCNY/PBS television series “Behind the Woman,” and founder of the “4Mics” podcast out of her hometown of Newark, New Jersey. Rogers is committed to social justice, education, and the arts. She holds a degree in integrative arts from Penn State Altoona, a master’s degree in higher education and student affairs, and a doctorate in higher education with a focus on race and equity from Indiana University. She also holds a master of fine arts in playwriting from Goddard College. Rogers is the vice president of racial equity and social impact at CenterState CEO in Syracuse, New York.
Sponsored by the Student Initiated Fee, this performance is free and open to the public. For further information, call 814-949-5452.
