ALTOONA, Pa. — “Outside Over There,” a body of work by Ivyside Juried exhibition winner Celine Browning, will be on display Oct. 1 through Nov. 6 in the McLanahan Gallery of the Misciagna Family Center for Performing Arts at Penn State Altoona. The exhibition is free and open to the public.

Browning is a Chicago-born artist and educator based in New Jersey. Trained in metalsmithing and fibers, she holds a master of fine arts degree in metals from SUNY New Paltz and dual bachelor of fine arts degrees in craft and art history from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including at the Norman Rockwell Museum, Northwestern University, the Stony Island Arts Bank, Florida Atlantic University and the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich. She is currently an associate professor of studio art at Caldwell University.

“Outside Over There” presents a powerful series of blind contour drawings that explore the experience of witnessing today's rapidly unfolding news. Created using a drawing method in which the artist looks only at the subject and never at the page, the works began as a response to images of ICE raids in Minneapolis in early 2026 and have since expanded to include photographs from news sources and the artist's own documentation.

Rendered in graphite and subtle embossed lines, the layered compositions reveal masked agents, politicians, mourners and civilians alongside fragmented objects that emerge through careful observation. Balancing abstraction with representation, “Outside Over There” invites viewers to slow down, look closely and reflect on the fleeting yet deeply human moments that shape our contemporary world.

The galleries are open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and before and during all performances. For further information, call the Misciagna Family Center for Performing Arts at 814-949-5452.
