ALTOONA, Pa. — The spring 2026 issue of “Hard Freight,” Penn State Altoona's student literary arts magazine, is now available online.
The latest issue showcases dozens of works of poetry, short fiction, creative nonfiction and visual art by students. The cover image is “Living Proof” by senior Richard Mitchell, who will graduate this semester with a major in visual arts studies.
Altoona students interested in serving on the staff of “Hard Freight” may register for ENGL 209: Journal Practicum, a one-credit experiential course that focuses on editing the magazine. ENGL 209 is open to all majors, and students may take the course up to eight times. Student editors select the works to publish, help to organize an open mic event, and design the issue, gaining valuable skills in marketing, event planning, and communication that are transferable to a wide variety of careers.
