HARRISBURG, Pa. — Hundreds of Penn State students, alumni, employees and friends traveled to Harrisburg on March 20 for the annual Penn State Advocate Capital Day event.

The University’s largest single-day advocacy event offers an opportunity for Penn Staters to demonstrate the impact of Penn State on the Commonwealth while advocating for accessible and affordable education. Students were able to meet with representatives in their offices to discuss tuition, budget, educational programming, and economic growth.

"Students, not just from Altoona but from all Penn State campuses and from other colleges and universities across the state, came together in support of funding all of higher education," says Cooper Wills, a senior studying political science at Penn State Altoona. "To see so many of us there at the same time fighting for the same thing was such a cool experience."

This year’s event included a Penn State rally in the Capitol Rotunda featuring the Nittany Lion, members of the Penn State Blue Band, and brief remarks from University President Eric Barron and current students. The day also included some new elements, like opportunities for legislators and students to network with representatives from Penn State programs that have a large impact on the Commonwealth.
