UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — All Penn Staters are invited to join alumni and friends for Homecoming Weekend (Oct. 21-22) and participate in the numerous events hosted by the Penn State Alumni Association.
The student-alumni ice cream social is one of the most popular events of the weekend and will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, at the Hintz Family Alumni Center. The ice cream social is a free event that all students, alumni and members of the Penn State community are welcome to attend.
Throughout the social, guests can enjoy performances by the Alumni Blue Band. The ice cream social helps welcome alumni back home for the weekend while boosting pride and morale leading up to the Homecoming Parade for Penn Staters of the past and present alike. The Alumni Association will provide onsite social media coverage of the ice cream social and additional Homecoming events throughout the weekend. Follow the Alumni Association on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to stay connected during Homecoming Weekend.
The Homecoming Parade will be Friday evening and feature many Alumni Association affiliate groups. There will be a livestream of the parade on the Alumni Association's Facebook page, and Facebook followers will receive a notification when the parade begins.
Following the Homecoming Parade, Penn Staters are invited to attend Guard the Lion Shrine, hosted by our student organization, the Lion Ambassadors. The event continues the long-standing tradition of alumni and friends guarding the Nittany Lion Shrine the night before the Homecoming game.
The event will feature food, music, guest speakers and more. No registration is required, and alumni and friends are encouraged to head to the Nittany Lion Shrine following the Homecoming Parade.
The Black Alumni Reunion is also coinciding with Homecoming Weekend, and while registration is closed, here’s a rundown of what Penn Staters can expect from this event.
The reunion will include opportunities for alumni to catch up with one another, expand their professional networks and connect with fellow Penn Staters. There will also be a special 'welcome back' celebration, a pregame football tailgate at Medlar Field before the Nittany Lions take on Minnesota, a watch party for the game, Sunday brunch, and more.
Proceeds from reunion tickets sales will benefit the Penn State African American Alumni Organization Trustee Scholarship Fund.
