UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — One of the many perks of membership with the Penn State Alumni Association is full access to the University’s alumni magazine — the Penn Stater — in its entirety online.

Now, readers of the Penn Stater magazine can be listeners, too — the magazine's web site has added audio capability, enabling listeners to tune into their favorite Penn Stater stories anywhere, anytime. On the website, look for the audio icon and click the play button.

"Offering audio capability on the Penn Stater website means that the magazine’s content is now available to a wider audience," said Stacia Fleegal, the Penn Stater's online editor. "Whether listening is preferable to reading for you, or you want to take the Penn Stater on your morning run or evening commute, we’re providing audio as yet another way for members to access stories about our awesome alums.”

The magazine's content, whether accessed in print, digital or audio, is an exclusive benefit for members of the Alumni Association. Non-members who visit the site can access limited content, or opt to get full access by joining the association. Members can access the full contents of the site by visiting pennstatermag.com and logging in with their email address and Alumni Association ID number. ID numbers are included in the footer of member emails received from the association.

The Penn Stater began with the 1910 debut of the Alumni Quarterly, which was renamed Penn State Alumni News and started publishing bimonthly by 1914. By 1961, it had grown into a black-and-white magazine format of 32 pages with numerous photos. Then, as now, it was filled with features on Penn State students and alumni and campus news.

Since being renamed the Penn Stater in 1972, the publication has evolved into a colorful 80- to 96–page magazine with award-winning feature writing, photography and design. With its debut on the web in 2021, the magazine team continues to evolve this venerable vehicle for keeping readers informed about the most compelling stories from the worldwide community of Penn Staters.

The Penn Stater staff welcomes news of weddings, births, career updates and other significant milestones for use in the "Class Notes" section. To submit a Class Note item, e-mail pennstater@psu.edu. Letters to the editor can also be submitted by e-mailing heypennstater@psu.edu.
