UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Lion Ambassadors, the student corps of the Penn State Alumni Association, will host an event in the HUB’s Noontime Lounge from noon to 3 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 22, commemorating the 169th anniversary of the University’s founding.

Penn State was established on Feb. 22, 1855, when the Farmers’ High School of Pennsylvania was officially chartered by the Pennsylvania state legislature. In 1862 it was renamed the Agricultural College of Pennsylvania and became the Pennsylvania State College in 1874. In 1953, it became the Pennsylvania State University.

The Founders Day event in the HUB will feature exhibits from the Penn State All Sports Museum, La Vie and the Penn Stater magazine. In addition, representatives from the Indigenous Peoples' Student Association and the Paul Robeson Cultural Center will showcase information on how different cultural groups have impacted Happy Valley both before and after the founding of the University.

The Blue & White Society, the Alumni Association’s student arm, also will be at the HUB event to provide information about the organization, which offers access to networking and leadership opportunities and gives students an early introduction to the power of Penn State’s global alumni network.

In recognition of Founders Day, the Penn State Alumni Association also will offer special discounted pricing on annual and multi-year memberships. Exclusively on Feb. 22, Penn Staters can access the membership deals at alumni.psu.edu

The benefits of Alumni Association membership include exclusive career services, discounts on goods and services, a subscription to the Penn Stater magazine in print and online, and more.

For more than 150 years, the Penn State Alumni Association has provided alumni with a strong and welcoming community representative of the Penn Staters it proudly serves. The association keeps alumni connected to the University and to each other, while upholding Penn State traditions and supporting the University’s mission of teaching, research and service. The association also produces the award-winning Penn Stater magazine and other publications, and offers alumni and friends volunteer opportunities, educational programming, and many other services.
