UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Stuckeman School in the College of Arts and Architecture, in collaboration with Penn State Outreach, is offering a virtual option for its Architecture and Landscape Architecture Summer Camp that will be held July 22-24 via Zoom.
The camp provides high school students entering ninth grade through seniors who may not be able to attend the in-person event or who want additional instruction with an introduction to the dynamic design worlds of architecture and landscape architecture.
According to Brian Peterka, assistant professor of architecture and a camp instructor, the camp projects will be developed digitally, the tools used will live in the digital realm and the course content will be tailored to students interested in starting to engage with the two disciplines through a digital lens.
“[The virtual camp is] not simply a canned program of pre-recorded videos and lectures,” Peterka said. “Students will have direct access to instructors from architecture and landscape architecture departments who will lead them through a series of exciting design exercises that are designed to introduce them to key architectural concepts, movements and contemporary tools of the trade.”
The camp is open on a first-come, first-served basis to reach its capacity of 35 students. If that number is not met by June 19, the camp will be canceled and registration fees will be refunded.
