UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The 2023 Penn State New-Music Festival and Symposium will take place on March 24-25, is free and open to the public, and will feature multiple guest performances and research presentations.
Presented by the Penn State School of Music in collaboration with Living Music, the festival offers concerts and research presentation sessions featuring the work of composers and scholars selected through an international call for scores and research proposals.
The festival concerts will feature performances by Penn State faculty and student performers, Penn State large ensembles, chamber ensembles and guest performers, including Mivos Quartet, Capitol Quartet, Matchstick Percussion, and Open Music.
Selected scholars will present papers/presentations on a wide range of proposed topics, and selected composer participants will attend the festival in person, work with performers, network with other participants and within the Penn State community, and hear their compositions presented during a festival concert.
The scholars and composers were selected from more than 650 submissions from 30 countries, and more than 20 different panels of reviewers reviewed and recommended selections for inclusion.
