UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State School of Music announces the inaugural performance of its Opera Workshop, led by new faculty members Dawn Pierce and Parker Konkle. The performance, titled "Seasons of Love," will take place on Dec. 10, at 7:30 p.m. in the School of Music’s Recital Hall. This unique presentation will explore a range of lyric repertoire, offering an avant-garde experience that merges music, movement, and storytelling.

The performance features a carefully curated selection of compositions from an array of renowned composers, such as Marc Adamo, Amy Cheney Beach, Leonard Bernstein, Margaret Bonds, Benjamin Britten, Jodi Goble, Adam Guettel, Betty Jackson King, Lori Laitman, Douglas Moore, Undine Smith Moore, Rosephanye Powell, Stephen Sondheim, Howard Swanson, Ralph Vaughan Williams, Kurt Weill and Lola Williams. Each piece contributes to a musical collage that spans genres and styles, tied together through innovative improvised staging and character development.

The performers, through psycho-physical exercises in community, have crafted intricate character arcs that highlight the deep, intertwining relationship between music and movement. Audiences can expect a seamless flow from one musical moment to the next, as each character’s journey unfolds in connection with the broader ensemble.

Join us for "Seasons of Love" as Penn State’s Opera Workshop brings to life this remarkable, one-of-a-kind collaborative musical experience.

Admission for this performance is free.
