From Oct. 8 to 18, the Borland Project Space at Penn State will host an exhibit by Evan Walsh, communications director of the artist-run For Freedoms foundation. For two weeks Walsh will use the space to feature a local iteration of "For Freedoms’ 50 State Initiative," in 125 Borland Building on campus.
The 50 State Initiative is a decedent of the For Freedoms campaign. For Freedoms was founded in 2016 by artists Hank Willis Thomas and Eric Gottesman. It is a platform for creative civic engagement. For Freedoms uses art to facilitate discussions on civic issues and core values. They seek to use this dialogue to advocate for equality and civic participation. The 50 State Initiative is the largest creative art collaboration in U.S. history, it aims to facilitate anti-partisan and critical thinking that you would normally encounter in fine art and inject that into political conversations with the use of programming, exhibitions, and public artwork.
Lonnie Graham, artist and professor of art at Penn State, has collaborated with, Walsh to coordinate the installation of the exhibit with Borland Project Space Curator and Director Ann Tarantino. The project is sponsored by Borland Project Space.
From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Oct. 10-11, visitors to the exhibit can meet Walsh and watch him utilize the space as his studio.
