Three prize winners and five honorable mentions were selected from among 24 area artists whose work was selected for the Lycoming County Juried Art Exhibition – titled “Art Alive!” – at The Gallery at Pennsylvania College of Technology.
The exhibition, which runs through June 28, features fine art in a variety of media and showcases the unique vision and emerging aesthetic ideas within Lycoming County.
First place was awarded to artist Howard Tran, of Williamsport, for his burlap artwork titled “Hanh Trinh.”
Second place was presented to artist John McKaig, of Williamsport, for his graphite and colored-pencil piece titled “Saints Never Surrender I.”
Third place went to Gary Steele, of Montgomery, for his ink and wax work titled “Steps to Wonder.”
Honorable mentions were awarded to five artists: Casey Gleghorn, “After the Long Ride Home”; Jeremiah Johnson, “Fertile”; Penny Young Miller, “Library Wall”; Theresa Crowley Spitler, “Low Country Light”; and Jackie Thomas, “I Have More Rights Inside the Pueblo; I Have More Rights Outside the Pueblo.”
Prize juror was Carrie Wissler-Thomas, president and CEO of the Art Association of Harrisburg. Votes for the Viewer’s Choice award will be accepted through the close of the exhibit, June 28.

Artists were selected for the exhibition by independent jurors Gary Mesa-Gaido, Florence Putterman and Joyce Robinson based on four categories: style, artistic integrity and first impression; communication and content; design and composition; and quality and control of the medium.
Each artist is displaying three works: one selected by the artist, one selected by the gallery and one selected by the general public via online voting.
All exhibits are free and open to the public. Exhibit hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday-Friday and 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday. The Gallery is closed Saturday and Monday.
