Award-winning higher education reporter set for Journalism Speakers Forum

An award-winning journalist who focuses on higher education and was a co-lead reporter on a Pulitzer Prize-winning series will be featured in a presentation question-and-answer Oct. 14 as part of the Journalism Speakers Forum, which features weekly speakers during the fall semester at Penn State.

Journalist Susan Snyder of The Philadelphia Inquirer will discuss her career and specifically focus on developing contacts — a skill that has become more important because of the coronavirus pandemic and the limits it has brough to some in-person reporting — at 7 p.m. Oct. 14 on Zoom. LINK

Snyder has covered education for The Philadelphia Inquirer since 1998. She spent the first decade reporting on the Philadelphia School District and was co-lead reporter on the Assault on Learning series that won the 2012 Pulitzer Prize for Public Service. She has covered higher education since 2012.

She twice served on a Pulitzer jury and was named a distinguished alumna by both her high school and college. She previously was an education reporter at The Morning Call in Allentown and the Times Leader in Wilkes-Barre. She’s a graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

The series of special guest presentations was coordinated by Will Yurman, the Norman Eberly Professor of Practice in Journalism in the Donald P. Bellisario College of Communications. A complete schedule for the Journalism Speakers Forum may be found online.
