UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The opportunities and resources students have to help enhance their undergraduate experiences will be discussed during the next episode of WPSU Penn State’s “Higher Education in Focus” with Penn State President Eric Barron. The show will air at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 5 on WPSU-TV and WPSU-FM.

Those out-of-classroom experiences — known as engaged scholarship — include undergraduate research, study abroad/away, embedded travel courses, community-based learning, service learning internships and capstone experiences.

Barron, along with Jonathan Alger and Timothy Sands, presidents of James Madison University and Virginia Tech, respectively, will discuss the engaged scholarship initiatives at their campuses and the effects they have on students, faculty and the community. The university leaders recently spoke at the 2015 Engagement Scholarship Consortium, an international conference Penn State hosted in September.

Penn State students are encouraged to participate in engaged scholarship, which the University hopes will contribute to a student’s academic, personal and social growth. Student resources for finding engaged scholarship opportunities include Penn State Career Services, the Office of Global Programs, the Office of Undergraduate Education and Penn State Outreach and Online Education.
