UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State President Eric J. Barron will welcome an immigration law expert for an in-depth discussion on U.S. immigration policy and the potential impact of President Donald Trump’s executive orders during the next episode of WPSU Penn State’s “Digging Deeper.” The show will air at 11:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Sunday, April 2, on WPSU-TV.

Shoba Sivaprasad Wadhia, Penn State Law’s director of the Center for Immigrants’ Rights and the Samuel Weiss Faculty Scholar, will join Barron to discuss the process behind creating immigration policy and the agencies that enforce it, the impact of the Trump administration’s executive orders on immigration, the terminology used to describe immigrants, and the vetting process.

“The impact is significant, emotional,” Wadhia said during the episode when discussing the order’s impact on Penn State. “After the first executive order was signed, I was up for many days fielding calls and concerns from not only affected students but members in our community.”

Wadhia’s research focuses on the role of prosecutorial discretion in immigration law and the intersections of race, national security and immigration. As a Penn State law professor, Wadhia teaches courses in immigration, asylum and refugee law. Prior to Penn State, she served as the deputy director for legal affairs at the National Immigration Forum in Washington, D.C. Among several recognitions, Wadhia has been honored by the Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Inspector General and Office for Civil Rights and Liberties.

“Digging Deeper: Immigration” will also air at 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 6, on WPSU-FM. A new episode of “Digging Deeper” will air each month during the academic year.
