Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts reveals 2018 poster design

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — The Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts has released its 2018 collectible poster, which features elements familiar to any festival-goer: musical notes, a paintbrush and the festival jester, arranged over a background of yellows, oranges and pinks. However, this year’s poster is notable in that the festival jester is depicted as a woman for the first time.

The 2018 festival will take place July 11 to 15 in downtown State College and on Penn State’s University Park campus. Children and Youth Day is July 11, and the festival’s well-known Sidewalk Sale and Exhibition opens July 12.

The poster for the 2018 festival was designed by Lanny Sommese, professor emeritus of graphic design at Penn State, in collaboration with his daughter, Saige, a 2018 graduate of Penn State’s graphic design program. Lanny Sommese has designed the festival’s colorful posters every year since 1974. The entire collection of Sommese’s posters is currently on display in the HUB-Robeson Center at University Park.

The poster is free and can be picked up at several area locations, including:

— HUB-Robeson Center desk, University Park

— Hintz Family Alumni Center, University Park

— Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts, 403 S. Allen Street, Suite 205A, State College

This year’s poster was made possible by grant support from the Centre County Convention and Visitors’ Bureau and the Centre County Commissioners. The festival receives state arts funding through a grant from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency funded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.
