On the next installment of “Higher Education in Focus,” Penn State President Eric J. Barron and WPSU-TV’s Patty Satalia will welcome Tom Hogan, professor of practice, human resource management at Penn State, for an in-depth discussion regarding civility and ethics in the classroom, workplace and society.
The program will air at 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23 on WPSU-TV. The monthly show will air throughout the academic year and feature a variety of guests discussing University-related topics. WITF-TV in Harrisburg and WQLN-TV in Erie will air the show at a later date.
The trio will discuss myriad issues, including the impetus behind civility pleas from several colleges and universities, the decision-making process behind what is civil and polite behavior and how social norms may affect acceptance of proposed changes.
A faculty member in the School of Labor and Employment Relations, Hogan has more than 30 years of experience as a practitioner and has served in leadership and management positions in both higher education and the corporate sector. Hogan, who earned a doctor of management degree from the University of Maryland University College and a pair of master’s degrees at Penn State, currently serves as a member of the U.S. Technical Advisory Group of the American National Standards Institute.
In the season premiere of “Higher Education in Focus,” Barron and Satalia welcomed Penn State’s first-year athletic director Sandy Barbour to discuss her plans for overseeing the University’s 31 varsity sports, news of lifting some of the NCAA sanctions and her thoughts on potential changes to NCAA regulations.
