UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Jonathan Colón, new college academic adviser for the College of Arts and Architecture, brings eight years of experience in advising to the position, including four years serving as the advising coordinator for arts programs at Salisbury University in Maryland.
Most recently, Colón was as an academic adviser in the College of Health and Human Development at Penn State, where he served as a central resource for faculty, department advising, and college support staff.
In the College of Arts and Architecture (A&A), his duties include fostering the academic advising relationship between students and advisers; coordinating the International Arts minor; facilitating the Faculty Senate Petition processes for A&A students; promoting opportunities for undergraduate education abroad experiences; promoting awareness of University resources; and serving as an additional resource for students in academic warning or suspension.
In addition to his advising position at Salisbury University, Colón served as an academic adviser at the University of California, Berkley, and as an admissions counselor at Salisbury University. While at Salisbury University from 2011 to 2015, he also taught courses in communications and interdisciplinary studies. Colón holds a bachelor's degree in English from San Francisco State University and a master's degree in English literature from Millersville University.
