UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Lung cancer is the No. 1 cause of cancer deaths and second most common form of cancer among men and women in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

On the next installment of WPSU-TV’s "Conversations LIVE," Dr. Jennifer Toth, Dr. Michael Reed and Shelly Weaver Wike will discuss the symptoms, treatments and prevention of lung cancer. They will join veteran host Patty Satalia for the discussion.

"Conversations LIVE: Lung Cancer" will air at 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, on WPSU-TV, WPSU-FM, WQLN-TV in Erie and online at wpsu.org. The 60-minute show is interactive, taking viewers’ phone calls, emails and questions via Twitter. Viewers can join the conversation by calling 800-543-8242 during the show, emailing connect@wpsu.org or tweeting @WPSU.

Toth is a pulmonologist with Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center where she diagnoses and treats diseases of the respiratory tract. She specializes in the diagnosis and management of lung cancer.

Reed is a thoracic surgeon at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. He specializes in lung cancer, esophageal disorders, hyperhidrosis, tracheal and pleural diseases.

Wike is co-chair of State College Free to Breathe, a local event to raise funding and awareness for lung cancer. Wike became an advocate for lung cancer after her husband died from the disease. She hopes to eliminate the blame and stigma of lung cancer being a “smoker’s disease.”
