Discounted orchestra seats to be available April 6 for ‘Rent’ at Eisenhower

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Center for the Performing Arts at Penn State will offer discounted seats for the 20th anniversary touring Broadway production of “Rent.”

A limited number of seats in the first two rows of the orchestra section will be available for a discounted price for the 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 6, performance of the Pulitzer Prize- and Tony Award-winning musical at Eisenhower Auditorium. The tickets are available for purchase in person at Eisenhower starting at 3 p.m. the day of the performance. Tickets will be limited to two per person.

The tradition of the discounted tickets began in 1996 in New York City when the show moved to Broadway after a sold-out run in a small downtown theater.

For more information about the show, which includes adult language and situations, visit the Center for Performing Arts online.

Listen to a Center for the Performing Arts interview with Penn State graduate Christian Thompson, who co-stars as Benny in the touring production.

Artistic Viewpoints, an informal moderated discussion featuring a visiting artist or artists, is offered in Eisenhower one hour before the performance and is free for ticket holders. Artistic Viewpoints regularly fills to capacity, so seating is available on a first-arrival basis.

Mimi Barash Coppersmith, Steven L. Herb and Sara Willoughby-Herb, Richard and Sally Kalin, and Jeane and Richard Singer sponsor the presentation. WTAJ-TV and 93.7 THE BUS are the media sponsors.

Patrons are welcome to bring a contribution for a book drive aimed at supporting Mid-State Literacy Council’s efforts to improve reading and learning proficiency in children. New and gently used titles with reading levels of preschool to sixth grade are preferred. Blue collection buckets are located in the Eisenhower lobby during regular business hours — 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday — and during events at the auditorium.
