NEW KENSINGTON, Pa. — A coffee can full of colorful mosaic tiles found in the basement of his newly purchased home led Stevo Sadvary on a journey that continues to this day. After working with the tiles for more than a month, Sadvary created a mosaic lobster in the shower of his home and a passion for a new artistic medium. Since then, Sadvary has shown, commissioned and installed his works throughout western Pennsylvania, as well as Maryland and Puerto Rico.

More than 30 of Sadvary’s works will be on display throughout February in the Penn State New Kensington Art Gallery. The “Pieces Together” exhibit features Sadvary’s interpretation of familiar Pittsburgh bridges, as well as abstract and patterned pieces.

Sadvary, who holds a bachelor of fine arts degree in weaving/textiles from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania and a master of science in information science from the University of Pittsburgh, hopes that his art brings joy and excitement to viewers, which helps reach his goal to make the world a brighter place.

In addition to the exhibit, which can be viewed in the gallery from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays and noon to 5 p.m. weekends, members of the campus community, as well as the public, are invited to attend an artist reception and meet-and-greet at 6 p.m Friday, Feb. 8 at the campus.

Penn State New Kensington’s gallery features monthly multimedia works of local, regional, national and international artists. All exhibits are free to the public.
