UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Banjo duo Béla Fleck and Abigail Washburn will contribute the proceeds from merchandise sold at their Oct. 22 concert in Eisenhower Auditorium to the Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon.
The donation is part of an initiative that will contribute all net proceeds from merchandise sales to local children’s nonprofits or environmental organizations that support the community in each community in which the couple performs.
“I am incredibly touched by Béla and Abigail’s generosity in supporting THON,” said George Trudeau, director of the Center for the Performing Arts at Penn State. “They inspire us with their artistry and now, also, with their donation to such a wonderful and cherished charity.”
The dance marathon, popularly known as THON, raises money to support the fight against pediatric cancer through the Four Diamonds Fund. Since 1997, THON has raised more than $127 million for the organization, which helps families of children with pediatric cancer to cover financial costs. The Four Diamonds Fund is also committed to providing money for pediatric cancer research.
