UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — What inspires each of us to be our true selves? Québec City’s FLIP Fabrique takes a physical approach to that question in “Muse” at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 28, in Eisenhower Auditorium.

The Canadian contemporary circus ensemble returns to Penn State with a performance that sees its athletes playing with gender roles and tackling stereotypes.

The company of seven gravity-defying athletes drives the fast-paced, visually stunning performance, which features an original score by beatmaker Millimetric and live vocals by singer Flavia Nascimento.

“‘Muse’ explores the spectrum of gender and identity through play and physical performance, managing to say more with breathtaking stunts and visual poetry than words ever could,” wrote a reporter for Fest magazine.

“As the show makes clear, both men and woman can be strong and sensitive,” said a writer for Voice magazine. “Watch this production to explore gender in a whole new way.”

Sketch-artist opportunity

Artists are invited to quietly observe and draw the human form in motion during FLIP Fabrique’s pre-performance onstage warm-up. The session will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 28, at Eisenhower Auditorium. Reservations are required for the 50-minute session.

After the sketching session, attendees must exit and re-enter with a ticket if they want to attend the 7:30 p.m. performance.
