The Penn State Berks Freyberger Gallery will present the exhibition "Industrial – Primitive," featuring assemblage sculpture by Robert Hakun, from Nov. 11 to Dec. 17. There will be an opening reception at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12, and a Gallery Talk at 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public, and light refreshments will be served.

Hakun collects and salvages discarded common objects — some natural, some man-made — that reflect the ravages of time and decay. Assembling these items together, from rusty gauges, to bones, to old wooden objects, the work reflects an odd juxtaposition of items that metaphorically and ironically convey a message. 

"I look for old pieces that show the graphic effects of aging: the beauty and harshness of the breaking-down over time of all things into what they came from." explains Hakun.

A graduate of Kutztown University with a degree in fine arts, Hakun has worked as a graphic designer and printer. He designed Halloween costumes for Collegeville Costumes, including Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Pee Wee Herman costumes. Hakun's art was recently selected for an award at the State Of the Art Juried Show in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
