UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - There will be a variety of art on display in the HUB-Robeson Center during The Cases Reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Dec. 3, in the HUB Galleries.
The art derives from different sources such as an art class at Penn State, various museums and galleries located on campus, and Brian Giniewski, a solo ceramic artist from Philadelphia.
The art will be broken up into groups consisting of cases one and two, housing the art from the ART 297 class; case three, displaying Giniewski’s art; and cases four and five, exhibiting the Eclectic Collections which represent the Penn State museums.
The Sustainable Studio Class (ART 297) focuses on what could be considered natural art. Students go back to the beginnings of the dye industry and utilize university resources, like the Penn State Student Farm, to begin their semester-long research.
Located across from the information desk, the Eclectic Collections will display art from nearly 10 different participating museums and galleries across campus. Some museums include the Earth and Mineral Sciences, All-Sports Museum and the Museum of Anthropology.
Giniewski’s art will be located by Heritage Hall and will be available for sale from Nov. 26 through May. Giniewski was at one time a visiting assistant professor of ceramics at Penn State and produces earthenware that utilizes a colorful drip process, giving his art the name ‘drip pots.' His pieces include mugs, vases, bowls and other types of ceramics.
“The galleries’ programs emphasize cross-disciplinary and new approaches that encourage discovery and inquiry, utilizing the arts as agents of change in addressing complex global issues,” said Lindsey Landfried, curator of HUB Galleries.
