UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Penn State School of Visual Arts' inaugural undergraduate exhibition "All In" is on display in the Edwin W. Zoller Gallery through Friday, Jan. 29. The exhibition includes an array of media, including installation, photography, ceramics, painting, sculpture, printmaking and performance, all showcasing the students' unique talents.
When asked about the exhibition, Graeme Sullivan, director of the School of Visual Arts, commented that "All In" "draws us in using different visual means, from a direct, confronting stare that singles the viewer out in a sometimes discomfiting way, to others where we have to circle visually and metaphorically to find an entry point for interpretation. Other forms are more secretive because of what they don’t reveal, yet they offer a quirky narrative that can be prompted by the curious way the material has been used. But some give us a bit of a jolt, such as Julia May Connelly’s 'Death of Creativity,' where infant ceramic masks unapologetically distill the innocence of the young into something akin to a marred relic."
Free and open to the public, an exhibition reception will be held at 5 p.m. Monday, Jan. 25, in the gallery. Light refreshments will be provided. Let's welcome in the spring semester with the first show of undergraduate work!
"All In," curated by Christina Dietz and Sue Kim, presents a multitude of themes as the artists experiment with diverse media and conceptual approaches to subject matter as they progress in their degrees.
