Penn State President Eric J. Barron will discuss the University’s responsibility to promote student career success and economic development during the next episode of WPSU Penn State’s “Higher Education in Focus” at 8 p.m. Thursday, March 19 on WPSU-TV and WPSU-FM.

Barron and WPSU-TV’s Patty Satalia will highlight Invent Penn State -- a new initiative the University president unveiled in January -- during the 30-minute program.

Utilizing the University’s size and research strengths, Invent Penn State focuses on bringing intellectual properties to the marketplace and helping turn new ideas into useful products. Penn State will initially invest $30 million, as well as additional annual contributions of more than $5 million, for the initiative.

Barron says Penn State will help serve as the facilitator between students and investors, giving the latter opportunities to capitalize in Penn State ideas. The president hopes to develop a culture that rewards entrepreneurship and creates an economic impact throughout the state. Barron and Satalia also will discuss the resources that will be made available to the University community to help achieve those goals.

“Higher Education in Focus” will air throughout the academic year and feature a variety of guests discussing University-related topics. Last month’s episode highlighted entrepreneurship and student career success.

In addition to the WPSU broadcasts, “Higher Education in Focus” will air on WITF-TV in Harrisburg and WQLN-TV in Erie at a later date. For more information and to watch archived episodes, visit wpsu.org/infocus.
