UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — This spring, Penn State University Libraries will offer informational sessions relating to foundational map and geospatial topics. These sessions are aimed to provide an introduction to maps and geospatial resources and expertise available at the Penn State University Libraries, and These sessions aim to engage participants across disciplines in the use of geospatial information.
Sessions do not require registration and are open to all Penn State students, staff, faculty and visitors, with remote viewing available online using Zoom at https://psu.zoom.us/j/802227975.
In addition, one-on-one map and geospatial research consultations are available through the Penn State Libraries Donald W. Hamer Center for Maps and Geospatial Information.

Launch your geospatial projects: Foundations and Searching for Geospatial Data
3-5 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 21, 211A Pattee Library, and via Zoom
An overview of geographic information systems (GIS) concepts, geospatial data, geospatial software, and an introduction to geospatial analysis topics relevant for multiple disciplines. In addition, this session will focus on searching geospatial data resources using library resources and additional data sources. Geospatial Online: Overview of ArcGIS Online
3-5 p.m., Thursday, March 14, 211A Pattee Library, and via Zoom
An introduction to ArcGIS Online, a web mapping application which can be used to communicate many spatial research interests across the disciplines. Participants will explore applications created with ArcGIS Online and work with a sample dataset. More information on ArcGIS Online is available on the Maps and Geospatial: ArcGIS Online guide.
Geospatial Analysis: Using GIS Desktop software
3-5 p.m., Thursday, April 11, 211A Pattee Library, and via Zoom
This informational session will highlight the use of introductory geospatial processes in ArcGIS ArcMap and ArcPro software, introducing and utilizing key software terminology, along with examples of the functionality within the software. Maps and geospatial examples will be provided in an interdisciplinary manner for participants.
