Libraries’ second Fall Football Film Festival highlights military academy games

The event on Friday afternoon, Oct. 2, precedes Penn State’s sold-out Military Appreciation Day home football game Oct. 3 against Army West Point.

Across the decades the Nittany Lions have faced opponents from the United States military academies on the gridiron. Classic images and footage from those occasions have been preserved by the Penn State University Sports Archives and the Special Collections Library. Credit: Penn State University Sports Archives and the Special Collections Library, University LibrariesAll Rights Reserved.

“Marching Down Field: Preserving Penn State Football Memories II,” a film festival of outstanding moments in football games versus the military academies, will be held from 3:30 to 5 p.m., Friday, Oct. 2, in Foster Auditorium, 102 Paterno Library.

Seating is limited, so those attending should plan to arrive early.

Historic Penn State footage will feature highlights from specific games as well as comments by guest speakers including retired Air Force Col. Guion Bluford, a Penn State Distinguished Alumnus and the first African-American astronaut in space.

The Penn State games will include:

Viewing and enjoying these moments is made possible through the efforts of the Penn State University Sports Archives and the Special Collections Library, which preserves and digitizes original photographs, films and videos to ensure access and the long-term viability of the materials. This program will also be archived on the Libraries' MediaSite Live.
