Local talent on display at ‘Art Alive’ exhibit at Penn College

Twenty-four area artists will show their work as part of the Lycoming County Juried Art Exhibition – titled “Art Alive!” – May 30 to June 28, at The Gallery at Penn College. The gallery is on the third floor of Pennsylvania College of Technology’s Madigan Library.

The exhibition features fine art in a variety of media and showcases the unique vision and emerging aesthetic ideas within Lycoming County.

Artists in the exhibit are: Chad Andrews, Paul Barrett, Marguerite Bierman, Brenda Blackwell, Donna Britton, Steve Buggy, Fred Gilmour, Casey Gleghorn, Jeremiah Johnson, Edward Jonasen, Richard Karp, John McKaig, Deborah Mezick, Penny Young Miller, Timothy Miller, Matthew Parrish, Veera Pfaffli, Roger Shipley, Theresa Crowley Spitler, Gary Steele, Jackie Thomas, Howard Tran, Ralph Wilson and Maureen Wroblewski.

Artists were selected for the exhibition by independent jurors Gary Mesa-Gaido, Florence Putterman and Joyce Robinson based on four categories: style, artistic integrity and first impression; communication and content; design and composition; and quality and control of the medium.

Each artist will display three works: one selected by the artist, one selected by the gallery and one selected by the general public via online voting.

Prize juror for “Art Alive” is Carrie Wissler-Thomas, president and CEO of the Art Association of Harrisburg. Wissler-Thomas has been a professional artist since graduating from Hood College. She holds a master’s degree from Temple University.

The gallery will host an Opening Reception from 5 to 7 p.m. on May 30, with awards announced at 6 p.m.

All exhibits are free and open to the public. Exhibit hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday-Friday and 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday. (closed Saturday and Monday).
