ERIE, Pa. -- The 26th season of Music at Noon: The Logan Series at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, opens Wednesday, Sept. 23, with a performance from Cordis, an ensemble built upon the cello, concert cimbalom, piano and percussion.
Cordis’ use of unconventional music-makers is what has set the group apart. One-of-a-kind creations such as the electric mbira, melodica and a cylinder-driven music box commonly appear in many of the ensemble’s performances.
“(Cordis) makes a strong case for both sides of its musical personality — expanding the boundaries of chamber music,” wrote one reviewer in Time Out New York.
Cordis’ Logan Series performance takes place at noon in the McGarvey Commons of the Reed Union Building. Admission is free, and reserved parking for audience members will be available in the Reed lot.
Also appearing in Music at Noon: The Logan Series this year will be Brasil Guitar Duo on Tuesday, Oct. 13; Classical Jam on Wednesday, Nov. 11; Sirius Quartet on Wednesday, Jan. 27; Nicolas Altstaedt with Alexander Lonquich on Tuesday, Feb. 23; and Richter Uzur Duo on Thursday, March 31.
Music at Noon: The Logan Series was founded by Kay Logan in 1989 and receives major support from Mrs. Logan. Additional funding is provided by the Penn State Behrend student activity fee, and the program also receives state arts funding support through a grant from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency funded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the National Endowment for the Arts. Additional support for the program is provided in part from an Erie Arts & Culture Project Grant, made possible by community contributions to the Combined Arts & Cultural Campaign and the Erie Arts Endowment.
